Kombi operator threatens to shoot TellZim staff

24 Oct, 2019
A commuter omnibus operator on 21 October 2019 reportedly threatened to shoot the entire TellZim newsroom staff.

A commuter omnibus operator Peter Chiware on 21 October 2019 reportedly threatened to shoot the entire TellZim newsroom staff following the publication of a story involving a brawl between his wife and his girlfriend.

In its latest edition, the weekly newspaper which is based in Zimbabwe’s southern town of Masvingo said Chiware phoned the newsroom and threatened to shoot its staff over the article which was published last week.

He is said to have also sent threatening messages through the WhatsApp platform saying the writer of the story should apologise or face the consequences.

“Journalism is not a crime, for someone to threaten to kill the whole newsroom because of a factual story is regrettable,” said TellZim editor, Passmore Kuzipa. “We will continue to write stories without fear or favour.”
