Journalist Mhlanga bail ruling postponed to tomorrow
What happened
The bail ruling in the case of Alpha Media Holdings (AMH) senior journalist Blessed Mhlanga, who is in custody, was postponed from 27 February 2025 to 28 February 2025 because magistrate Farai Gwitima was attending a family bereavement.
Mhlanga was remanded in custody on 25 February 2025, pending a bail ruling on 27 February 2025, on charges of transmitting data messages that incite public violence.
He is facing two charges of breaching Section 164 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, which addresses the transmission of data messages that incite violence or cause damage to property.
It is alleged that after interviewing war veteran Blessed Geza on 27 January 2025 and again on 11 February 2025, the journalist transmitted Geza’s messages, which incited violence, through YouTube and HSTV, thereby breaking the law.
