Ruling on journalist Madzikatidze application for refusal of further remand set for tomorrow

What happened
The ruling on the application by Bulawayo 24 journalist Gideon Madzikatidze for refusal of further remand is now scheduled for tomorrow, 24 September 2026, at the Magistrates’ Court in Harare.
According to Madzikatidze’s lawyers, the ruling had initially been scheduled for 14 September 2026 but could not be duly delivered because it was not yet ready.
The matter was then postponed to 18 September but did not proceed accordingly because the court record was missing.
Further postponement occurred on 21 September as the court record was still missing.
On 22 September, the Clerk of Court advised that the file had eventually been located, and the matter was postponed to 24 September 2026 for ruling on the application for refusal of further remand.
Madzikatidze who is out on bail is facing two charges:
- Contravening Section 7 (1) as read with subsection 4 (b) of the Broadcasting Services Act [Chapter 12:06] (providing a broadcasting service without a licence).
- Cyberbullying as defined in Section 164B of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act [Chapter 9:23].
