Newsday journalist denied accreditation for Zanu PF conference

What happened

Evans Mathanda a journalist with Newsday was on 21 October 2021 reportedly denied accreditation by the ruling Zanu PF to cover the party’s impending conference.

According to the editor, Wisdom Mdzungairi, Newsday has since contacted Zanu PF’s director of information and publicity, Tafadzwa Mugwadi, and a meeting will be held to discuss the issue at hand.

MISA's position

MISA Zimbabwe urges all stakeholders to promote equality and non-discrimination where it concerns the media industry, and more so, where it pertains to access to information.

All journalists should be given equal opportunity to seek, receive and disseminate information as this will go a long way in addressing media polarisation in Zimbabwe.
