What happened

Journalist Mhlanga granted bail High Court judge Justice Gibson Mandaza granted bail to Alpha Media Holdings (AMH) senior journalist Blessed Mhlanga on 6 May 20254 based on changed circumstances that justify his release.

Mhlanga was granted bail of US$500 and is required to reside at his permanent address, surrender his passport to the Clerk of Court, report to the police every Friday, and refrain from interfering with witnesses.

His trial date has been set for 14 May 2025.

Background

Mhlanga is facing two counts of contravening Section 164 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act which deals with transmitting data messages inciting violence or damage to property.
