Journalist denied access to ZITF opening ceremony
What happened
Annahstacia Ndlovu a journalist with the Voice of America’s Studio 7 was on 28 April 2023 reportedly denied entry into the arena to cover the official opening ceremony of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Zimbabwe’s second largest city of Bulawayo.
According to Ndlovu, she had earlier duly submitted her credentials to the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, only to be informed that her name had been removed from the list of journalists that were going to cover the ceremony.
Ndlovu said she had earlier covered President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s tour of Halls 4 and 5 without any challenges.
MISA Zimbabwe reiterates its call for all responsible authorities, to always promote equality and non-discrimination as espoused in the Constitution. This includes ensuring that all media houses are provided equal opportunity to undertake their professional duties in the spirit of media pluralism and diversity.
